The leadership, management and staff of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) has described the sudden passing of Arch Ferdinand Agu, former Director General of the Defunct Nigerian Maritime Authority (NMA), now Nigerian Maritime Administration  and Safety Agency (NIMASA)  as an most unfortunate development, adding that his demise following recent passages of other notable industry personalities has further  depleted the industry’s human capital.

Reacting to the development when contacted by our reporter, Rector MAN, Commodore D.E Effedua (Rtd)  said the entire MAN community was deeply shocked and saddened by the unfortunate event.

Effedua recalled that the former NIMASA DG took time out to visit the Academy recently to ascertain for himself the level of development and transformation that has taken place there; noting that the Academy and maritime industry has lost a friend and a concerned heavy weight stakeholder.

“Management, staff and Cadets of the Academy are shocked by the sudden passing of Arch Ferdinand Agu. He was a friend and companion to us at the Academy. His insights and contributions to the development of the Academy are invaluable and the vacuum he has left will be a yawning void for many years.”

“When things like this, as human we cannot question the Almighty, so we are taking his death in good strides in our helplessness. I am using this opportunity to convey our condolences his family, the maritime industry and Nigerians and pray that he finds repose in heavenly bliss”, Effedua said.
