ANLCA Will Not Give In To Distraction, We’re United’ – Mustapha
BY EGUONO ODJEGBA
The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha has said that the brickbat between himself and Nze Alloy Igwe, immediate past Chairman of the Association Electoral Committee (ASECO) was unnecessary and regrettable, and called on all members to be wary of falling into any form of distraction.
Accordingly, he declined to react to Nze Igwe’s accusations when contacted by our reporter, insisting that nothing must be done to derail the peaceful cause of the association based on mere misunderstanding.
This is even as he clarified that every well meaning member of the association including himself and Nze Igwe is not in the least willing to return to the path of war, and urged all third party observers to respect ANLCA’s position and the dynamics of its internal fraternity; and apologized to all those who may have panicked owing to his clarification on Nze Igwe’s resignation that was made news item alarm.
Recall that Mustapha had two days ago queried the purported resignation of the former ASECO Chairman, noting that the development may not be unconnected with issues of accountability arising from the financials of the last general election.
Making a roundabout turn, the BoT Chairman note that he has contributed significantly in upholding the peace and unity of the association and must not be party to any untoward actions that may threaten its stability, achieved, alongside well meaning industry stakeholders.
He said, “I have worked hard along with good-spirited individuals in our industry to return ANLCA back to this peaceful level. As a leader, I mustn’t be the one to truncate the same peace. I have received a lot of misleading stories about me in the past when the crisis was on. So I will never react on this one.
“All I know is that I have no reason to twist any story or lie against any of our members. So I apologise to our members who feel threatened with this new development.
“I can assure you ANLCA is not going back to the dungeon. We will not allow the fifth columnists to derail us. The bobby trap has been detonated. I appeal to journalists to be more professionals. So that chapter is closed and we have moved on. The naysayers have lost.”
