In a spirited move to promote sports and youth development, the Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) welcomed the leadership of the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation (NPWF) on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at its headquarters in Lagos.
The visit, led by NPWF National President Chief John Uche, was aimed at formally notifying the Command of the upcoming African International Wrestling Championship, slated for October 18–19, 2025, at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra State.
According to a statement by the Customs Command Public Relations Officer, CSC Ivara Oscar, Chief Uche revealed that the championship will feature wrestling icons and rising stars from Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and several African nations. More than just a sporting spectacle, the event is designed to spotlight Nigeria’s rich wrestling talent and empower over 100 youths through grassroots development initiatives.
“The Federation is committed to using sports as a tool to curb youth restiveness, reduce poverty, and create sustainable job opportunities,” Uche said.
Comptroller Frank Onyeka, who received the delegation, praised the Federation’s efforts and reaffirmed the Customs Service’s dedication to youth empowerment. He emphasized that under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, psc (+), the Service remains a steadfast supporter of grassroots sports and national development.
