A Milestone for Maritime Accountability and Sustainability
In a landmark recognition of its unwavering commitment to maritime advocacy and research-based evaluation, the Sea Empowerment Research Centre (SEREC) has officially been admitted as a member of Ocean Centres Ghana — a prestigious platform established through a partnership between the UN Global Compact and Lloyd’s Register Foundation.
This timely and well-deserved recognition marks a new chapter for SEREC, whose consistent and informed critiques have held the maritime industry and broader ocean economy accountable. Since its inception, SEREC has distinguished itself through incisive commentaries, rigorous analysis, and a dedication to fostering transparency and sustainability in ocean governance.
Ocean Centres Ghana is part of a multi-stakeholder initiative designed to shape safer, more sustainable ocean economies across four key Action Areas:
- Shipping & Ports
- Fishing & Aquaculture
- Offshore Renewables
- Finance & Investment
As a member, SEREC gains access to:
- High-level dialogues influencing global maritime policy
- Ten targeted workshops (eight in-country and two cross-country)
- A national network for co-creating innovative, locally tailored projects
- Engagement opportunities with international experts and stakeholders
- Tools and guidance to embed safety and sustainability into operations
This membership not only amplifies SEREC’s voice but also empowers it to contribute meaningfully to the co-creation of solutions addressing safety and sustainability challenges in ocean industries.
Ocean Centres Ghana has extended an invitation to SEREC to actively participate in upcoming workshops — both in-person and online — by sharing case studies, insights, and barriers encountered in the maritime space. This collaborative approach ensures that solutions are not only practical but also rooted in real-world experience.
The letter signed by Nana Kwabena Boakye-Boampong reads, “We look forward to working with you and to achieving great impact together.”
As the tides of ocean policy shift toward sustainability and safety, SEREC stands ready to navigate, influence, and lead.
