Tin-Can Customs Nets Over N986bn In 10 months

Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday said it has recorded a total of N986.3billion in revenue receipts between January and October 22, 2024.

The Customs Controller Area (CAC), Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni, who disclosed above described the figure as very significant considering the fact that the entire revenue collected in the Command in 2023 was N716.4billion.

The Controller who was speaking when he received the newly elected executive members of the League of Maritime Editors (LOME) who paid him a courtesy visit added that the command also recorded massive seizures within the period under review. He put the Duty Paid Value of the various seizures at N4.5billion.

“What this means is that even though the year has not ended we have surpassed last year’s collection by N476bn”, he said.

On the equally impressive seizures made, he said, “This is also significant considering that within the period in 2023, we collected N1.51billion equivalent of items that were seized. It means we surpassed last year’s seizures figure by N3.4bn.”

He commended the Comptroller General of the Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for giving officers of the command all necessary support and motivation that have helped in its overall performance.

This is even as he also commended officers of the command for their outstanding commitment to duty, as well as importers and their clearing agents who paid the duties; noting that when citizens civic responsibility to revenue obligation and taxes are complied with, such society advances.

The customs ace administrator said that the management of the Customs led by Adeniyi is aware that the federal government relies so much on revenue from the customs service to offset some obligations to Nigerians and that the NCS is very proud to contribute to this objective.

He added that the Customs Command is always ready to collaborate with traditional stakeholders in line with the tripartite fundamental pillars of the CGC, anchored on collaboration, consolidation and innovation.

He disclosed that every week, the Command chooses a new slogan to help motivate officers and men of the command in their job. He announced the prevailing slogan as “reform or regret”.

Responding, President of League, Mrs. Remi Itie congratulated the CAC, his management, officers and men for all their impressive achievements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling activities.

Mrs. Itie said that she was not surprised that Nnadi has been performing creditably in Tin Can Island port command considering his credentials over the years in addition to his impressive records whilst he held forth as area controller of Seme Border.
