The Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha has joined other prominent Nigerians in applauding the emergence of the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR as Chairman, World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.

Mustapha says that the recognition couldn’t have come on the basis of an empty premise, noting that Adeniyi has brought a new sense of belonging and positive wave of m otivation, new direction, efficiency and consistency into the nation’s customs operation.

“Nobody gets elected into the leadership position of the WCO Council on empty premise, because the council is the highest decision making body in global customs administration. So many factors come into play because the position is crucial for steering communications and strategies in global customs administration; and not for bench warmers or for second bests.

“Adeniyi is a core professional customs officer. He is industrious and competent, looking at his leadership style in the past two years, you see a fine gentleman customs officer who is passionate about trade facilitation without compromising national security. That is a critical ingredient of leadership hallmark; and when you consider that he is excellent in communication and engagement; that too is key to a successful customs administration and operation.

“He is so energetic that when he superintended over B’Odogwu, the local customs management system innovation spread abroad like wild fire. He knows his onions, understands customs administration and operations; it is not surprising that WCO found him efficient, articulate and dependable to chair the council.

“It is my believe that his tenure will impact global customs administration positivel. We must not forget that by divine providence, Adeniyi has been around customs activities in Brussels for many years, so the cap fits him. On behalf of the board of ANLCA, the national leadership and the numerous members, here is wishing our amiable CGC Adeniyi God’s protection and guidance in his additional task as chairman of the world customs council.”
