Chana Led Kano/Jigawa Customs Hit 94% Revenue Chart

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has recorded another significant productivity scorecard by up-scaling its revenue net by 94percent over and above the corresponding period of 2023.

According to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana, the command remains committed to its core mandate of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security.

Chan who identified various factors for the command’s achievements in revenue engineering listed improved enforcement mechanism, operational innovation and technology as part of the awesome strategies that has turned things, around.

The Command Public Relations Officer, CSC Saidu Nuruddeen in a release said “This approach, combined with enhanced border security operations that prevent smuggling and other illicit activities, has fortified the integrity of the revenue collection system.”

In anti-smuggling activities, Nurudeen said the command recorded various seizures some of which have been handed over to relevant agencies of government empowered to oversee their administration, put the combined Duty Paid Value (DPA) of the seizures at N235,290,320 .

Giving the breakdown of the seizures, Chana said: “Over 136x50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice, 238 cartons of spaghetti, macaroni and couscous; 534 cartons of foreign non dairy creamer milk, 210 kg of kola nuts and about 552 bales of second hand clothing.”, adding that while:

”191 blocks of compressed blue cannabis handed over to the NDLEA, 74,870 tablets of Tramadol hydrochloride tablet and 280 blocks of Indian Hemp has also been handed over to the NDLEA.

“While a total of 1,290 packs of expired/fake pharmaceutical products and 1 sack of 750 pieces of Otrivin bottle of 15ml each which were handed over to NAFDAC, the command also intercepted 2,231kg of pangolin scales earlier and then followed up with 2,179 kg, and arrested one suspect in Mubi, Adamawa State, in a joint operation with the Wildlife Justice Commission.

“The combined total stands at 4,410 kg of Pangolin scales arrested”, he added.

Chana said the command under his watch prioritizes strategic stakeholders’ engagement and partnership in achieving results.

“The command also fostered strong relationships with sister security agencies, leading to collaborative efforts in addressing security challenges, coupled with a proactive engagement with terminal operators, licensed agents, and market associations has facilitated trade and improved compliance.”

While acknowledging the profound contributions of sister security agencies and critical stakeholders in achieving these impressive results, the Kano/Jigawa customs boss also thanked the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR and his management team for their unwavering support in ensuring that the command meets its statutory mandate.
