Kano/Jigawa Customs Handover Seized Tramadol To NDLEA

In a demonstration of commitment to continue to combat the evil of the trafficking in illicit drug trade, the Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has successfully seized and handed over a substantial quantity of Tramadol Hydrochloride to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana, the seized drugs, totaling seventy four thousand, seven hundred and ninety (74,790) tablets of 250mg Tramadol Hydrochloride, were presented to the NDLEA at a handover ceremony Tuesday.

The Command Public Relations Officer, SC Saidu Nuruddeen in a statement quoted Chana of underscoring the importance of inter-agency cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, which he explained motivated the significant seizure even as he highlighted the serious national security risk posed by illicit trade in drug and outright drug trafficking.

Commander of NARCOTICS Kano State, Alh Abubakar Idris Ahmad, after receiving the items commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its dedication and professionalism. He also applauded the bravery and sense of commitment of customs personnel involved in the operation.

While Chana and Ahmad hinted that the seizure and handover mark a significant improvement in interagency relationship between the Customs Service and NDLEA to combat drug smuggling into the country, they pledged that both agencies will continue to work together to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians.

The Kano/Jigawa customs boss has since taking over the leadership of the area command reignited effective monitoring and enforcement leading to occassional impressive seizures, including illicit substances and globally protected endangered species, one of which results in the past four years was recently displayed by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi in Lagos. Its instructive to note that Comptroller Chana was in the delegation of the CGC in Lagos.

A result orientated officer, for optimal performance, Chana has improved on the customs-host community relationship, same way he has maintained an upward interagency synergy with sister organisations including the military and para-military services.

Cerebral and focused, the command under his watch has recorded significant and incremental successes in revenue and anti-smuggling activities, with improved officers motivation and commitment to national assignment.
