Nigeria Customs Service Hands Over Seized Cannabis in Owerri

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C of the Nigeria Customs Service has officially handed over a large consignment of illicit drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), reinforcing inter-agency collaboration in the fight against narcotics trafficking.
At a brief ceremony held in Owerri, Comptroller Bishir A. Balogun, Controller of FOU Zone C, announced the transfer of 151 wraps of Cannabis Sativa weighing 77,500 grams and 15 wraps of Canadian Loud weighing 8,600 grams to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.
Comptroller Balogun explained that the contraband was intercepted during routine patrol operations, following credible intelligence, noting that officers discovered the drugs carefully concealed in an attempt to evade detection.
He emphasized that beyond revenue generation and trade facilitation, the Customs Service plays a vital role in national security by intercepting prohibited substances that threaten public safety.

This is even as he remarked that the handover underscores the Federal Government’s push for synergy among security agencies, adding that the NDLEA, being the statutory body for drug enforcement, will now take charge of the case.
Balogun praised the diligence and professionalism of Customs officers in Zone C, while also appreciating the NDLEA and other sister agencies for their shared commitment to building a safer Nigeria.
He urged Nigerians to provide useful information to aid enforcement operations, reiterating its determination to protect communities from the devastating effects of illicit trade and drug trafficking.
“The handing over of these 151 wraps of Cannabis Sativa and 15 wraps of Canadian Loud reflects the spirit of inter-agency cooperation that the Federal Government continues to encourage.
“We are proud to work in synergy with the NDLEA to ensure justice is served and harmful substances are removed from circulation,” Comptroller Balogun stated.
“The NDLEA is expected to conduct further investigations and take necessary legal”, Balogun said.
