NPA Deploys Electronic Barrier System At Lagos Terminals

BY EGUONO ODJEGBA
In a strategic move to modernize port operations and streamline traffic management, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), led by Managing Director Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has completed the rollout of Electronic Barrier Systems across all terminal access points within the Lagos Port Complex (LPC).
This landmark deployment marks a pivotal step in NPA’s automation agenda, aimed at curbing unauthorized truck diversions—a longstanding challenge that has hindered terminal throughput, disrupted traffic flow, and reduced overall port productivity.
The Electronic Barrier System is fully synchronized with the Eto Electronic Call-Up platform, operated by Trucks Transit Parks Ltd (TTP). This integration ensures that only trucks with valid Eto-issued tickets are granted terminal access, reinforcing gate control protocols and eliminating unauthorized entries. The result is designed to improve transparency, enhancedcoordination, and a more predictable logistics environment.
The new system effective 1st September 2025 coverd all terminals within the Lagos Port Complex, ushering in a new era of digital gate keeping and operational discipline.
This initiative aligns with key national and industry priorities, including:
*Supporting the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business reforms
*Driving transparency and accountability across port operations
*Enhancing terminal efficiency and cargo throughput
*Strengthening truck traffic management and reducing congestion
The NPA extends its appreciation to all stakeholders for their collaboration and support throughout the implementation process. As the Authority continues to invest in smart infrastructure and digital transformation, it reaffirms its commitment to delivering a secure, efficient, and business-friendly port ecosystem, positioning Nigeria as a leading maritime logistics hub in Africa.
