NPA GM, Ahmad Wanka, At Eid, Hawan Daushe Celebration

A maritime technocrat and general manager with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Alhaji Ahmad Wanka who actively participated at the just concluded Eid Day commemorating the end of the Ramadan fast, as well as the Hawan Daushe, a notable ceremony in Bauchi State.
Wanka who is the Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta (Commander of the Calvary) was part of the Emir of Bauchi entourage to Government House to pay Salla homage to the Governor; a ceremony in which the Emir is escorted by all title holders on horses back.
The Emir was received by the Governor and all functionaries of the State Government at the Government House. Resplendent and alluring in his majestic frame and colourful attires, Wanka stood out in the crowd on Monday, March 31, 2025 during the Hawan Daushe; believed to have started in 1805.
According to tradition all district heads are also obliged to escort the Emir to the Mosque and back to the palace on every Eid celebration, the highpoint of the event being the traditional homage paid to the Emir, known as Jahi. This took place on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
Like the every green durbar ceremony, Hawan Daushe attracts dignitaries from far and near, including state governors, diplomats, tourists and guests from neighbouring states like Plateau, Kaduna and others that have no Emirs.
Eid and Hawan Daushe are yearly event commemorating the end of the fasting. Also known as Sallah or Hawan Daushe, rich in cultural splendor, it is celebrated in several cities across northern states, including Katsina, Sokoto, Zazzau, Bauchi, Bida and Ilorin.
