NUPENG Vs Dangote Refinery: DAPPMAN Urges Calm and Collaboration Amid Rising Tensions

BY GBOGBOWA GBOWA
As tensions mount within Nigeria’s downstream oil and gas sector, the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has issued a heartfelt appeal for restraint, dialogue, and unity among stakeholders to avert a looming crisis that could disrupt the nation’s petroleum supply chain.
In a statement released by Executive Secretary Olufemi A. Adewole, DAPPMAN expressed deep concern over the possibility of industrial action that threatens to destabilize the sector. The Association emphasized the far-reaching consequences of such disruptions, not only for the industry itself but for millions of Nigerians whose daily lives depend on the steady availability of petroleum products.
While calling for dialogue, DAPPMAN notes that the path to resolution lies not in confrontation, but in constructive engagement. The Association called on all parties—government agencies, labour unions, investors, and other key stakeholders to embrace roundtable discussions as the most effective mechanism for resolving grievances.
The concerned stakeholder says industrial harmony is not just a sectoral concern but is a national imperative, as the statement reads: “We must protect jobs, sustain revenues, and above all, shield ordinary Nigerians from the ripple effects of supply disruptions.”
DAPPMAN urged the Federal Government to take swift and decisive action in mediating the concerns of aggrieved parties. The Association believes that proactive intervention can prevent escalation and foster a climate of trust and cooperation.
This appeal is coming at a time Nigeria’s energy landscape is undergoing significant transformation, with reforms aimed at attracting investment and improving efficiency. DAPPMAN’s stance reinforces the importance of stakeholder synergy in navigating these changes.
The statement reads, “DAPPMAN therefore appeals to all parties involved to exercise utmost restraint and embrace constructive dialogue as the most effective means of resolving disagreements.
“In particular, DAPPMAN calls for the urgent intervention of the Federal Government in addressing the concerns of all aggrieved persons. We firmly believe that engagement at the roundtable will yield lasting solutions and prevent avoidable disruptions in the sector.”
In its commitment to a win-win future known for its collaborative ethos, DAPPMAN reiterated its commitment to working hand-in-hand with all players in the sector. The Association advocates for solutions that balance the rights of workers with the need for uninterrupted petroleum distribution—a delicate equilibrium that underpins national economic stability.
“We humbly urge all parties to sheath their swords. Let us avoid actions that could escalate the situation and instead create space for fair, balanced, and sustainable negotiations”, Adewole stated.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with energy challenges, DAPPMAN’s call for calm serves as a timely reminder of the power of dialogue and shared purpose. Adewole says the Association remains steadfast in its mission to foster peace, cooperation, and progress in the oil and gas industry, for the ultimate benefit of the nation and its people.
