Remi Itie Emerges League’s President

The League of Maritime Editors (LOME) Thursday elected Mrs. Remi Itie its president, leading an eight man new executive to pilot the affairs of the body for the next two years.
She defeated her opponent, Mr. Eddie Iroha, with three votes differential, pulling a total of 11 out of 19 votes cast. Members of the new executive include Friday Odoemena – Vice President, Felix Kumuyi – Secretary, Okey Iroegbu – Assistant Secretary, Tony Ohakwe – Treasurer, Francis Ugwoke – Public Relations Officer, Mr Shola Mekusi – Welfare Officer and Godwin Obi – Financial Secretary.
While the post of the president and financial secretary was contested, won and lost, the others were returned unopposed in the electoral exercise presided over by veteran maritime journalist, Funsho Olojo as returning officer. Other career journalists with about three decades of practice that supervised the election includes Pastor John Iwori, Foster Obi and Chief Innocent Chukwu.
Mrs Remi Itie, Publisher of Pathway Magazine, was a member of the founding pioneers of the League of Maritime Editors, which has over the years blossomed into critical industry development partner and the leading media voice in corporate governance reporting and constructive engagements for national growth.
Mama Maritime as she is fondly called brings to the table her long years of media practice cutting across New Nigerian Newspaper, Voice of Nigeria among other credible media platforms.
In her acceptance speech after the election, Itie pledged to raise the bar in building stronger bridges of friendship, professional partnership and engagement; in addition to rejuvenating the League’s Centre for Maritime Development, Research and Strategic Engagement.
