…Speaks On Niger Delta $320m Carbon Credit Prospect

The investiture of the Executive Director of Operations and Technical, Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL), Captain Warredi Enisuoh who bagged a Honourary Doctororate degree in Leadership and Strategies from the Highstone Global University, Texas, USA, took place on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Lambele Place, Asaba.

Amb. Prof. Valentine Iheuckwumere, African Vice Chancellor of the university in his address noted that the award of doctorate degree to Dr. Enisuoh and fourteen (14) other recipients is the outcome of careful selection process based on proven capability.

Delivering a lecture titled “Sustainability Through Good Governance And Community Development”, said the role of intellectual and development drivers in any society cannot be overemphasized; as such individuals serves all time bridge builders.

Prof Iheuckwumere identified the critical link between governance, human development and community engagement as the major plank fostering long term sustainability in any society.

Giving a vote of thanks on behalf of the other awardees, Dr. Enisuoh appreciated the management of the university and well wishers who found time to be part of the historic event.

“I trained as a professional, l have been an aero plane pilot and a sailor, and presently involved in the protection and securing of critical infrastructure in the nation’s oil and gas area.

“Having identified some of the challenges especially those linked to host communities, my company Tantita has developed strategies to stem the tide of related economic criminalities by engaging the community peoples.

“We are also empowering them in various ways and today, many are part of the success story and we must sustain the tempo of interactions and positive engagements.

“On behalf of my fellow awardees, l do the authority of Highstone Global University and everyone  that is here to be part of today’s event. We feel very enamoured about these awards and can only look forward to doing more for the benefit of ourselves, society and mankind”, he said.

Speaking with reporters after the investiture, Enisuoh unveiled Tantita’s ambitious plan to transform the Niger Delta’s economy and environmental landscape through carbon credit initiatives.

He explained that by leveraging on its dense vegetation and ecological potential, the region can generate $320 million annually, which effectively lead to the diversification of the region’s economy by reducing dependence on oil and gas while exploring a wider scope of economic potentials under a sustainable regime.

Dr (Captain) Enisuoh remarked that communities in the Niger Delta known for their resilience and resourcefulness, could be at the forefront of a carbon credit revolution.

With mapped area of approximately 50,000 trees, the potential annual revenue of $320 million highlights a transformative opportunity, precedent on empirical scientific validation and adherence to Nigeria’s Climate Change Act of 2021, he said.

“This initiative is not just about financial gains,” Capt. Warredi said. “It’s about preserving the environment for future generations and creating a sustainable future for our communities.”

He further explained that the drive which is been facilitated by Chairman of Tantita, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alaias Tompolo, while thanking the revered former war lord for providing him a platform to do more for the region, country and father land.

Describing the region as the “face of Nigeria’s littoral identity”, he said Niger Delta is ripe for a shift from its traditional reliance on oil and gas, courtesy of the emerging carbon credit global market.

The program he says aim to involve local communities in carbon credit generation and carbon capture programs, providing them with an alternative income stream and fostering economic independence.

He disclosed that Tantita is already leading the sensitization of the populace to embrace eco-friendly practices that promotes sustainable forests potentials, thereby attracting investors and creating jobs.

While acknowledging the ecological restoration efforts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and the federal government, Capt. Warredi noted challenges such as illegal maritime activities and environmental degradation.

He also called for stricter maritime security regime, clearer demarcation of Nigeria’s maritime borders, and enhanced environmental safety policies.

He used the opportunity to highlight progress made by Tantita in the region’s ecosystem restoration, including the return of marine life such as fish and crayfish to previously degraded waters.

This is even as he applauded the National Security Adviser and other stakeholders for their role in securing rising up for an enhanced safety and protection of maritime resources.

In the same vein, he emphasized that achieving the ambitious carbon credit initiative in the region and nationwide would require collaboration between federal and state governments, private sector players, and local communities.

“The Niger Delta has immense untapped potential beyond oil and gas. With substantial revenue from carbon credits, improved ecosystem restoration, and enhanced maritime security, the region is on the brink of a transformative era.”
