Greatly concerned about increasing brushes with the controversial cybercrime act by journalists and determined to curtail embarrassments caused professionals, the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) will today hold a one-day workshop on its impact on the media and its overall social media menace.
MARAN President, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere says this is coming as part of the Association’s effort in promoting online safety for its members in the course of their duties as journalists in the maritime industry.
He explained that the workshop which is in conjunction with the Nigerian Port Police aims to educate participants on the prevention, identification, and response to cyberbullying, aimed at ensuring a safer online environment for everyone.
Holding at the International Maritime Centre, Apapa, it is expected that participants at the end of the workshop would be armed with a clear definition of cyberbullying and its forms, recognise signs and symptoms of cyberbullying, and develop strategies for prevention in their reportages.
Cyberbullying is the use of technology to harass, intimidate, or threaten someone, typically through social media, messaging apps, emails, or other online platforms.
