B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G: Effedua, Rector MAN Oron, Resigns

There are strong indications that the result oriented Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Commodore Duja Effedua (Rtd) may have resigned from office, with more than a year to complete his tenure.
According to ministerial feelers, Effedua who was appointed on November 2017 and was subsequently re-appointed for a second term in September 2021 by President Muhammadu Buhari, has tendered his resignation letter at the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
A dependable ministerial source who informed our reporter that his resignation letter was sighted at the Minister’s office declined to give details. When contacted, Effedua said he has no comment.
He however confirmed the development when pressured, saying “his reasons are personal”.
“My reasons are personal, l believe that the rectorate is not a chieftaincy title, l have done what l should do to set standards as a military man and administrator l am satisfied with whatever achievements l was able to record. It’s time to move on”, and declined further comment.
It is on record that he carried out a comprehensive clean up of the system, closed financial leakages, improved cadets’ hostels and hitherto poor feeding, rejigged academic and non academic staff orientation for positive ends, expanded and refurbished staff quarters; completed abandoned and outstanding projects; and began a construction of structures and facilities for enhanced status of the academy and in line with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) standards.
In the past seven years, Effedua has fought many battles, within and without, in the effort to preserve the reforms and to isulate the academy from economic predators and political merchants that held down its develeopment for many years.
His departure may likely return the Academy to the woods as well as a return to the locust years. Tail or head,
