Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Commodore Duja Effedua (Rtd) has told Dr. George Davidson ( Martins Ugwu Okpe no, real name) and the gang of blackmailers he said he has spared no efforts in preventing from further access into the Academy, not to dissipate energy seeking to break the anti-extortion fence he has erected.
The Rector who was reacting to a video footage by one Adamu Jibril, an ex-staff of the Academy when our reporter ran into him in Lagos said he knows the brain behind “the tired, false and old recycled allegation.”
According to the Rector, “It is no coincidence that the cooked up allegations by Jibril in the video was re-hatched same day some of his criminal cohorts, JO, Udobong, OU Essien and Micheal Edet were remanded at the Abuja Correctional Centre over a case of attempted extortion, blackmail and malicious defamation against the Academy.
Jibril in the said video footage which went viral on the internet since Friday alleged that he has used to commit financial crimes at the Academy.
However, clearing the air, Effedua said Jibril has been a pawn in the hands of Okpe, Udobong, Essien, Edet and others who he said have held the Academy hostage for financial exploitation even before he was appointed.
He said that Okpe and his gang are known for blackmailing CEOs and other influential Nigerians, hiding behind the mask of crime fighters.
He informed that Okpe has several cases against him in courts appertaining to blackmail and extortion, noting that the shady character is on record to have jumped court bail.
He challenged Okpe who is on record to have stolen his friend’s medical certificate to secure jobs in government agencies to show his face to prove his allegations.
On Adamu Jibril, he said: “I do not know where to start from because this fellow breached the Public Service Rules severally as a result of unacceptable conduct which include stealing, falsely accusing his colleagues among others.
“Adamu accused his colleague of money laundering who in turn petitioned him to management. A committee was set to probe him but he starting crying and begging to be forgiven that he did it because he was broke and needed money.
“He is part of a syndicate who regarded the Academy as their fish farm where they use to harvest money unchallenged in the past. Former Rectors must have suffered a lot under Adamu Jubril and his cohorts who collude to blackmail and extort the Academy.
“Adamu Jubril and his co-travelers are pained that we refused to yield to their blackmail and intimidation of the Academy for funds provided by government for the development of the school. They are after me because they are very angry that l have successfully blocked all financial leakages through which they used to siphon money from the system. This the real reason they are after me.”
Effedua vowed not to buckle noting that MAN belongs to Nigerians and not a few criminal elements.
“Our resolve to block all financial leakage and focus on the restructuring mandate as ordered by the Federal Government has rendered them hopeless and frustrated, forcing them into faceless petition writers”.
“We often laugh at their antics because we are guided by rules and regulations in everything we do. Adamu and his criminal gang are hanging unto the Academy in pursuit criminal money making, for as long as l remain here, the Academy is no place for them. We have taken steps to identify them and showed them the way.
“It is unthinkable that a staff of any institution will collude with outsiders to pull down the organization they are employed to work, grow with and protect.
Continuing he said, “This Jubril is the same person who was rolling on the floor begging for forgiveness when I called the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to interrogate him on his allegation of money laundering by the cashier in December 2020”.
“He was issued query, his reply and the petition written against him by the cashier he was blackmailing and extorting are well documented.
“He was bold enough to tell his colleague that if she refuse to comply with his demands, they will suffer a lot in the hands of the EFCC, and ICPC before the truth will be uncovered.”
On Okpe’s connection, the Academy rector said, “When someone brought the video he is circulating to my attention I laughed because I could connect the video to the arraignment of his partners JO,Udobang, OU Essien and Micheal Edet. This video was horridly produced on the same day Udobang and his gang were arraigned and remanded. What a coincidence”.
“It is likely among those guiding him on what to say in that video is one fake Dr. George Davidson, his real name is Martins Ugwu Okpe. Martins Ugwu Okpe is a well known serial blackmailer and extortionist whose criminal records are documented and recorded.
“He has tried us and failed. His cases of identity theft, impersonation and blackmail at the Federal Ministry of Health where he worked as a fake medical doctor for a decade before he was caught and paraded by the Nigeria Police are in the public domain.
“He has several ongoing court cases as a result of his criminal conduct ongoing at the Federal High Court Gwagwalada and Court 11 Jabi in the FCT.”
Effedua urged those who are in doubt to find out from the courts mentioned.
“There are reports that Martins Ugwu Okpe stole the medical certificates he used to secure employment at the ministry of health where he worked for 10 years till he was caught. He tried to blackmail a former Coordinator of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Prof Nacidi during the Ebola outbreak years ago and even the Permanent Secretary.
“He was paraded by the police on national television. The same Martins Okpe aka Dr. George Davison got my number and call me in 2018 that I should pay him money if I wanted peace, that he can protect me from blackmail. I warned him to steer clear of the Academy and he said I should not consider myself a champion.
“At a point he called my staff to arrange a meeting for discussions between himself and the Academy which we declined. For Adamu Jubril to associate with such hardened criminal syndicate, who specialize in criminalities tells you the kind of person he is.
“Personally I do not have time for people like Adamu who is running from his shadow. I am too busy to have time for persons of his ilk.”
He said he is not perturbed about the said video since he believes that the long arm of the law will catch up with him soon.
“He should be ready to back up his allegations with proof. We are not distracted by these drowning, desperate criminals. We are focused on our work at the Academy which is our mandate and primary objective”, he said.
Effedua praised the Nigerian Police Force and the Inspector General, saying the police professional doggedness resulted the uncovering of the identity of Udobong and his cohorts.
“Without the police putting it’s professionalism into play, these guys would have remained unknown. Don’t believe anyone who tells you that the police is not working, they are working.
“You see you can’t rule out the reality of a few bad eggs, this IGP is professional, dedicated and is working. Finding these criminals takes much effort, l congratulate the police. Udobong and his friend Michael Edet are lawyers, but when they write their frivolous petitions they use fake address, but the police have been able to bust then.”
