The League of Maritime Editors (LOME) has rescheduled its Seminar and Award programme earlier slated for September 11 to hold on September 30th in Lagos.
While the seminar is drawn from the recent election of Nigeria as Chairman of the World Customs Organisation Council, part of the ceremony would be awards to be conferred on few industry chieftains for their glaring contributions to the industry.
In a press statement signed by the President of the League, Mrs Remi Itie and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Francis Ugwoke, the theme for the seminar is “Nigeria’s Chairmanship of WCO Council: The Expected Benefits for the Nation’s Economy.”
Adeniyi was elected on June 28, 2025, as the first Nigerian to hold the prestigious position since the WCO was founded in 1952.
Specifically, the seminar which is scheduled for Tuesday September 30, 2025, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, will discuss the expected economic gains of the position to Nigeria and indeed the West African sub-region.
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who is also the Chairman of the WCO Council is scheduled to be at the event as a Special Guest of Honour, while a renowned freight forwarder, Chief (Dr) Eugene Nweke will give a keynote address as the Guest Speaker on the occasion.
Various maritime agencies of government are expected to give short lectures on different topics relating to Trade Facilitation as it affects them and the industry.
Among those to be honoured on the occasion to be chaired by the former Retired Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Charles Edike, are the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Pius Akutah, among others.
Expected at the event are industry stakeholders, including chief executives of the agencies in the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, providers and consumers of shipping services and others.
