Despite the challenge of Covid-19, the Ports and Terminal Multi-purpose Limited, PTML, Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated a total of N87, 818,715,427.00 between January and June 2020.
The figure is over and above the sum of N75, 706, 005, 900.00 generated during the corresponding period of 2019, with a surplus of N12, 112,709,437.00, representing 16% increase. Custom Area Controller, Comptroller Okun E.O said the figure is the command’s highest half year revenue record since inception, even as he attributed the impressive performance to increased cargo throughput, in addition to resilience and diligence of its officers and men.
Okun who spoke through the Command Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Yakubu said as a model port command, officers and stakeholders are constantly reminded of the need to update their skills in digital applications not only to get the best services out of customs but also to stay connected with their businesses online, especially in line with the demand of NICIS 11.
A statement signed by Mohammed Yakubu and made available to Vanguard Maritime Report indicated that the command collected a total of N13,300,872,189.64 in February 2020, as the highest monthly revenue collection first half of the year.
The breakdown shows the collections as follows: January N16,456,582,954.22, February N13,300,872,189.64, March N15,646,193,726.04 and April N11,241,400,911.00. Also, N13, 661,428,914.48 was collected in May and N17, 512,236,904.07 collected in June.
