WMD 2025: Nigerian Shippers’ Council Highlights Economic Regulatory Mandate, Celebrates Stakeholders

As part of the 2025 World Maritime Day celebrations, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) yesterday at the Eko Hotel and Suites reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime economy through effective port regulation and oversight.
The Council used the occasion to commend stakeholders and investors whose efforts continue to shape the trajectory of the nation’s maritime sector. Speaking during the celebration themed “Our Ocean, Our Obligation and Activity,” the Executive Secretary/CEO of NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah, acknowledged the critical role of industry players in fostering transparency, competitiveness, and sustainability across Nigeria’s ports.
He emphasized that the Council, as the designated Port Economic Regulator, remains focused on creating an enabling environment for trade facilitation, cost efficiency, and infrastructure development.
In a statement released to mark the global event, the NSC noted that its regulatory interventions are geared toward ensuring fair pricing, eliminating bottlenecks, and promoting accountability among service providers operating within the port ecosystem. The Council added that its work aligns with the broader vision of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, particularly in advancing Nigeria’s position as a maritime hub in West Africa.
The Council extended warm appreciation to all maritime stakeholders for their continued collaboration and investment, which have been instrumental in driving sectoral growth. It also expressed pride in joining the global shipping community to celebrate World Maritime Day 2025 in Lagos, reaffirming its resolve to steer Nigeria toward a more efficient and economically vibrant port system.
The statement adds that a the maritime community reflects on its shared obligations to the ocean and the industry, the NSC wished all participants a memorable celebration and renewed success in building a resilient and prosperous maritime future for Nigeria.
