Apapa Customs Hits Record ₦28.1bn Revenue in 24 Hours
…As Oshoba says compliance, revenue drive national development
BY FUNMI ALUKO
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has recorded its highest-ever single-day revenue collection, generating ₦28.102 billion within 24 hours on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The new record, announced by the Command on Wednesday, surpassed the previous single-day revenue milestone of ₦20.1 billion, recorded in September 2025, shortly after the assumption of office of the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba.
The Command Public Relations, CSC Isah Sulaiman in a release disclosed that the latest feat comes barely weeks after the Apapa Command also achieved an unprecedented ₦323 billion monthly revenue collection in July 2026, further highlighting what the Command described as sustained gains from improved compliance, trade facilitation, intelligence-driven interventions and increasing efficiency in digital Customs processes.
Reacting to the development, Comptroller Oshoba said the significance of the record went beyond the figures, stressing that Customs revenue constituted an important component of government resources deployed to fund national development.
According to him, revenue generated by the Service contributes to government’s capacity to provide infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and other public services that directly affect the lives of Nigerians.
He consequently dedicated the latest milestone to the government and people of Nigeria, while commending the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, and the management team of the Service for their continued support for modernisation, automation and reforms aimed at making Customs operations more efficient, transparent and business-friendly.
Oshoba also attributed the achievement partly to the cooperation of compliant importers, exporters, licensed Customs agents and other stakeholders, as well as patriotic Nigerians who have continued to provide actionable intelligence to the Service.
He stressed that “every compliant transaction contributes to national development,” urging stakeholders to continue to support legitimate trade and comply with Customs regulations.
The CAC noted that a stronger revenue base would give government greater capacity to respond to the needs of the people while creating a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
He, however, warned officers and men of the Command against complacency, describing the new record as a responsibility to raise the bar rather than a reason to relax.
Oshoba directed personnel to maintain professionalism and transparency while ensuring that revenue collection is balanced with effective trade facilitation and respect for legitimate stakeholders.
He particularly charged officers to resolve genuine disputes promptly and ensure that Customs procedures do not unnecessarily impede lawful businesses.
The latest revenue performance further strengthens the position of Apapa Command as a critical revenue-collection arm of the NCS, given the strategic importance of the Apapa port complex to Nigeria’s maritime trade and national economy.
Under Oshoba’s leadership, the Command has continued to focus on revenue optimisation, compliance, technology-driven Customs processes, intelligence-led interventions and stakeholder collaboration.
The Command said it remained committed to sustaining the momentum, with the understanding that every legitimate naira collected strengthens government’s capacity to deliver on its development priorities and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
