Dantsoho Gets Presidential Salute For Election As IAPH Vice President

BY GGBOGBOWA GBOWA
In a significant boost to Nigeria’s maritime profile, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has been elected Vice President (Africa) of the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH).
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended his congratulations, commending the global body for recognizing Dantsoho’s leadership and reaffirming Nigeria’s growing influence in the marine and blue economy.
The President noted that this milestone echoes a similar honor in 2017, when Hadiza Bala Usman, a former NPA chief, held the same position.
Recall that Dantsoho also recently became the first Nigerian Chairman of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA).
His election was announced during the 44th Annual Council in Conakry, Guinea, where he pledged to advance regional maritime competitiveness, modernize port infrastructure, and foster economic cohesion among member states.
These dual roles place Dr. Dantsoho at the helm of both regional and global maritime policy, reinforcing Nigeria’s leadership in shaping the future of seaport operations and trade across Africa and beyond.
