Drug War: Customs CG Lauds Apapa Controller

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Controller General (CG), Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) has commended the Controller of the Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Mallanta Ibrahim Yussuf over the seizure of a container of unregistered pharmaceuticals products said to contain 1,427 cartons.

Ali described the customs area boss sterling performance in the war against illicit drugs since assuming control of the command, utilizing strong intelligence gathering tool and profiling.aaa

I statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Usman and made available to our reporter gave the 1x40ft container number as GESU 6642430. According to the statement, the intercepted container was laden with 144 cartons of 200mg Tramadol tablets; one carton of 100mg Tramadol tablets, 958 cartons of Septran (Co-Trimoxazole), 180 cartons of CAC – 100 Plus Effervescent Tablets and 144 cartons of Oxytocin Injection.

The commendation letter signed by Compt K. A Olusemire on behalf of the Comptroller General read in part: “By this act, you have demonstrated zero tolerance attitude for corruption and other vices in line with the policy thrust of this administration.”

The letter also commended all officers of the Command for the laudable feat. It will be recalled that since assuming leadership of the Apapa Area Command, the war against illicit movement of drugs has progressively rising in intensity and regular seizures as they come.

Yusuf have showcased seizures of offensive drugs in three of its terminals, noting that the war is total and forever, unless the unscrupulous traders involved also embrace legitimate trade in both pharmaceutical products and other areas of imports.
