DSS Raises Alarm Over Planned Mass Abduction in Edo

The Department of State Services (DSS) in Edo State has issued a chilling security alert, warning of a planned mass abduction of school children by suspected bandits in the Edo North Senatorial District.

According to a release by the Agency, intelligence intercepted by it suggests that two suspected bandits identified as Bawa and Nuhu, revealed plans to target schools after failed attempts to abduct wealthy individuals. The DSS noted that the criminals believe kidnapping school children would draw greater government attention and potentially yield higher ransom payments.

The alert comes on the heels of the arrest of 25-year-old Emmanuel Momidu, who was reportedly caught surveilling Makeke Secondary School in Akoko Edo Local Government Area on June 4.

In response, the DSS has urged immediate countermeasures, including the deployment of security personnel to vulnerable schools, collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters, and intensified patrols across high-risk communities.

The agency emphasized that safeguarding schools in Edo North is now a matter of urgency, as bandits appear to be shifting their focus toward educational institutions.
