BY EGUONO ODJEGBA
A former Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron, Pastor Nseyen Ebong has expressed surprise that the Academy is been run by an adhoc management team, noting that the institution is too critical to be populated by qualified persons not given their due recognitions and rights.
Ebong who was speaking at Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi’s Auditorium of the Academy, venue of the 2024 Cadets Graduation Ceremony appealed to the federal government to take urgent steps to remedy the situation and raise the self confidence of qualified principal officers by according them their due designations.
The former rector further noted that organizational efficiency and productivity is enhanced when important offices and its occupiers are accorded their proper recognition, adding that it is a disservice for an institution of government to rely almost exclusively on adhoc management drivers.
His words: “From the programme of event, l saw something that made me worry. Out of ten management team, more than five are in acting capacity, including the Registrar. Which kind of organization does that?
“I hear that the registrar is very efficient, if the registrar and the others are doing well, what is government waiting for to confirm their respective appointments? Why must MAN be run by adhoc management team? I think that the federal government should look into it, it will enhance productivity and promote self confidence”, he said.
