Kano/Jigawa Customs records 100% increase in revenue collection

Management of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has announced revenue collection of seven billion, six hundred and fifty eight million, one hundred and thirty eight thousand, six hundred and fifty nine naira, N7, 658,138,659.00, between January and March, 2021.

The 2021 first quarter figure represents over 100% increase over and above collection made by the command at the corresponding period of 2020, even as the command made a total of twenty six seizures with a Duty Paid Value of N38, 564,000.00, within the period under review.

Customs Area Controller, CAC, Comptroller S. P Umar, assured that the command under his watch will leave nothing to chance in aggregating optimal collection of revenue receipts accruing to the federation account from all trade zones within the command.

A statement by the Command Public Relations Officer, Mogaji, quoted the CAC as saying that the impressive performance is a result of continuous robust stakeholders’ engagement, and the commitment of officers and men to duty.

Giving the breakdown of the seized items, Umar said the fight against foreign imported rice has been total, with the seizure of 716x 50kg bags, with a DPV of N20, 764, 000, including imported used tyres with a DPV of N3, 120,000.

In addition, the customs area boss said with the support of intelligence from the CIU, the command intercepted two exotic cars, a Mercedes benz C43 AMG 4MATIC 2017 Model and a Mercedes Benz GLE 53 AMG TURBO 2021 Model, both of which has a DPV of Eighty Three Million, Five Hundred and Nine Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eighty Nine Naira, N83, 589, 989.

Lamenting the continuous act of smuggling despite government efforts to curtail same through sensitization campaigns, Umar declared that the service remains unwavering in its duty to continue to challenge and arrest economic saboteurs, noting that the customs zero tolerance for smuggling is nonnegotiable.

He words, It is very unfortunate and disturbing that despite the wide awareness on the dire consequences of smuggling activities negating economic growth , some citizens still perpetuate the criminal act for their selfish interests.

“The Nigeria Customs Service’s zero tolerance for smuggling is non negotiable and the service will do everything within its capacity to fight all acts of smuggling.”
