Sambo, Ali, Shittu, Others Set for League’s Retreat

All is now set for the  League of Maritime Editors(LOME) Retreat , where  the Minister of Transportation, Muazu Jaji Sambo , the Comptroller General of  Nigerian  Customs Service (NCS),  Col. Hammed Ali (Rtd) among other distinguished stakeholders will be conferred  with different  categories of awards for agenda setting and excellent performances, in their various  areas of endeavours.

Those slated for the prestigious awards include Col. Ali, Director General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration  and Safety Agency(NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, Managing Director of the  Nigerian Ports Authority(NPA) , Mr. Mohammed Bello Koko, Chairmen of Skellas Group and Sifax Group,  Prince Olayiwola Shittu and Dr. Taiwo  Afolabi, respectively.

Top performing commanders in the NCS namely, Comptroller  Malanta Ibrahim Yusuf, Customs Area Controller, Apapa Area 1 Command;  Comptroller  Albashir Hamisu Psc (+) , Controller  Federal Operations Unit, Zone B Kaduna;  Deputy Comptroller  Hussein Kehinde Ejibunu , Controller   Federal Operations Unit , Zone A, Ikeja;   Coordinator,  Comptroller General of Customs Strike Force Lagos, Deputy Comptroller Umar Yusuf; and the Customs National Public Relations Officer,   Deputy Comptroller Timi Bomodi.

The Honourable Minister of Transportation is expected to declare open the retreat holding at the Airport Hotels Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday December 8, 2022, during which lectures are also to be delivered by key operators and experts.

The theme of this year’s retreat titled ‘Lekki Deep Seaport:  Identifying Gains, Challenges and Potential Threat to Lagos Ports’ will be presented by the Mohammed Bello-Koko. The lecture shall dwell on the expected gains and challenges of having a new deep seaport. Believing that the Lekki Deep Seaport will lead to severe competition, the paper is also expected to dwell on the likely threat that the new deep seaport may pose to the existing Lagos ports considering the   infrastructural decay   in the system and Apapa   port environment that has become a nightmare to shippers.

Other stakeholders expected to deliver papers include the   Chairperson of Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN), Princess Vicky Haastrup.

While Sambo has been invited as the Chief Guest of Honour, the Executive Secretary/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Honourable  Emmanuel Jime, is scheduled to be the Chairman of the occasion.
