According to a statement by Mr. Kelvin Kagbare, Managing Director CEO of Data Resources Ltd, publishers of Maritime Nigeria, Newsgate and Maritime Insider, the award was confered on Dr. Jamoh in recognition of his commitment and uncommon resilience in expanding the capacity potential of the maritime industry.

Presenting the coveted Award to the NIMASA DG at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua International Conferences Centre, Kagbare, who doubles as Managing Editor of Maritime Nigeria said Dr. Jamoh’s commitment to resolving the myriad of issues affecting development of the industry is unique and unrivaled.

According to the Maritime Nigeria CEO, Dr. Bashir Jamoh emerged Maritime Man of the Year 2021 after a painstaking, industry opinion pool, in addition to a very exhaustive editorial debate, both of which were based on verifiable evidence, statistics and data.

His efforts to remove Nigeria from the War Risk Insurance Premium, in addition to providing a huge maritime security platform, are part of the key evidences of his uncommon commitment to capacity development building.

A resourceful and appreciative leader, Dr. Jamoh is also one who understands the politics and diplomacy of global shipping.

In the heat of the war risk insurance premium imposed on Nigeria, he would mount the podium at every opportunity and call for the lifting of the penalty; describing it as unfair.

“It is significant that critical stakeholders in the world shipping community, like Lloyd’s List, are recognizing Nigeria’s efforts to make the Gulf of Guinea safe and secure for seafarers and ships, it would be unfair for the world to sidestep such huge investment and commitment to maritime security and retain the high war risk insurance premium on ships bound for our waters.” Jamoh says.

Maritime Nigeria added that Dr. Jamoh have also contributed positively to the transformation at the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, MAN, as a key denominator to maritime capacity building.
