The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni,  who presented a paper titled: “An Insight into Customs Clearance Challenges and Breach of Extant Customs Procedures”, harped on the dynamic nature of port business and the importance of staying updated on current developments; even as he stressed the need to continue to support compliant traders while at the same time, discouraging non-compliance via prescribed sanctions and penalties.

A front row customs strategic planner and development officer, Nnadi explained that Customs’ role has evolved beyond revenue collection to include trade management that contributes to government policies. He says how Customs personnel and stakeholders adapt to these changes is a significant part of the Customs clearance processes.

Speaking about the command’s daunting task of meeting the balance of its annual revenue target of N801 billion against the backdrop of the falling exchange rate of the naira, he posit that that the closing revenue leakages and promoting compliance among stakeholders and declarants is essential.

Also speaking, the Command DC Enforcement Unit, Deputy Comptroller Gambo Aliyu, stressed the importance of training and retraining, noting that staying updated on modern customs techniques is crucial to ensure that the supply chain aligns with international best practices.

This is even as he commended Comptroller Nnadi for his versatility which he said he has deployed to the advantage of the command since taking over control.
