President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s resolve to harness Nigeria’s blue economy as a primary driver of economic growth, charging the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to step up efforts in advancing the sector.

The President gave the commitment during a private audience at the State House in Abuja with the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola.

According to a statement by NIMASA Head of Public Relations Department, Deputy Director Edward Osagie, during the high-level meeting, Dr. Mobereola presented a comprehensive briefing outlining the agency’s progress over the past two years, key achievements in maritime safety and security, and the persistent structural challenges facing the industry.

Responding to the update, President Tinubu emphasized that establishing the dedicated Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was an intentional strategic decision to unlock the untapped potential of Nigeria’s coastal and inland waterways.

“The creation of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was a deliberate step towards ensuring that the maritime sector contributes more significantly to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP),” President Tinubu stated.

While expressing satisfaction with NIMASA’s performance, the President urged the agency’s management team to maintain momentum and avoid complacency as they implement reforms to expand national revenue streams.
